About Sabra
Sabra is a second generation criminal defense attorney. She grew up in a house where the phone rang at all hours of the night and spent her weekends hanging out at the jail, while her father worked tireless to get his clients released. Prior to making the switch to criminal law, Sabra spent almost 6 years as a construction litigation attorney for one of the largest firms in the South. She travelled the world interviewing and deposing witnesses. She was mentored by a man that smoked two packs of cigarettes and drank two pots of coffee a day. He taught her to pay attention to the details and use her writing skills to win the battles. When she was not litigating, Sabra worked as the Legislative Director for the Alabama Senate, where she was able to hone her oral advocacy skills.
Of course, none of this really matters now. Because right before turning 45, Sabra declared, outloud, that she was not sure she wanted to be a lawyer anymore. Today, Sabra has no idea what she wants to do with the second half of her life. In fact, in making this statement outloud, Sabra admitted that all she has ever known is what she does not want. She has no idea what she actually wants in life. It’s been quite a shakeup.
This blog is Sabra’s way of swimming back, upstream, to a life that she knows is out there for her. In the meantime, she holds on to these important values: 1) sobriety; 2) helping people, especially at their worst times; 3) volunteering—it makes the world go round; and 4) family. She is hopeful that someone will rescue her and pull her onshore. But, deep down, she knows that she actually may not need rescuing—that maybe this is the life for her, but if she needs rescuing, the only person that’s going to get that done is her. Until then, she is blogging: please don’t tell her husband :)
